MNU National Congress on STEM Education Starts April 6
Between April 6 and 10, 2017, the National Congress of the Teachers’ Association for the Promotion of STEM Education, MNU for short, will take place in Aachen. For more than 125 years, MNU has been supporting teachers in their challenging work through educational programs and by promoting the exchange of ideas in publications and at conferences. The 2017 Aachen Congress, titled “STEM in the Classroom: Modern and Sustainable,” is sponsored by NRW Minister President Hannelore Kraft.
More than 1,000 teachers and other actors in school education will meet at RWTH’s C.A.R.L. lecture hall complex to discuss the latest trends and developments in the field of school education. Aside from 160 presentations and workshops surrounding the STEM subjects mathematics, computer science, chemistry, biology, technology, the conference features panel discussion, best practice fora, and an exhibition of teaching and learning tools.
As one of Germany’s leading universities in the STEM disciplines, RWTH Aachen places emphasis on teacher education in engineering, computer science, and the natural sciences, as is attested by the new Bachelor’s program “Teaching Technology at Secondary Schools” and by the University’s success in the nationwide Teacher Training Quality Initiative.
This year’s congress will have a focus on digital tools for the classroom and discuss approaches to STEM education in the Benelux states. Furthermore, it seeks to make stimulating contributions to the topic of sustainability in all its breadth and depth: According to the UNESCO Committee, education in the service of sustainable development plays a central role in solving the challenges of a globally networked world.
