RWTH-spin-off envelio awarded first prize in BMWi entrepreneurship competition.

envelio – one of six start-up companies who entered the competition nationwide – won first prize in the second round of this year's “Digital Innovations” Entrepreneurship Competition by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, BMWi for short. Since 2016, the BMWi has been supporting innovative business ideas that are based on modern information and communication technologies with this competition. BMWi State Secretary Dirk Wiese presented the award including 32,000 euros in prize money during the 2017 IFA consumer electronics fair. Approximately 300 innovative entrepreneurship teams from all around Germany had applied to win this prize.

The RWTH-spin-off envelio was able to convince the jury with its software-as-a-service-solution “Intelligent Grid Platform.” With this, envelio offers energy grid operators the opportunity to efficiently plan and operate sustainable and flexible grids using a digitalized process. The software combines the research results from five different RWTH-Theses to offer an altogether holistic solution, by which rewewable energy and charging points for electric vehicles can more quickly and cost-efficiently be integrated into power grids.

With the prize money, envelio plans to push forward with its pilot phase project involving notable grid operators while also preparing for their nationwide market launch next year.
