New Course Guide for RWTH Studies for Senior Citizens

08/09/2017

The new course guide for studies for senior citizens at RWTH Aachen is now available. Studies for senior citizens will once again offer a variety of topics and activities during winter semester 2017/2018.

The focus is on the faculites' regular course offerings, which are open to senior citizen students. This places young and old in dialgoue, with each side profiting from the other. Additionally, there are courses offered by university instructors that are exclusively for senior citizen students.

The popular Wednesday seminar continues to attract a large audience with topics from different faculties. The presentations range from "Food - Abundance and Shortage: scientific, ethical, and practical considerations on a pressing problem in humanity" to "Brexit and the Future of the European Union" and "Dentists in National Socialism - a Research Project," covering a broad spectrum of topics. There is also always a space for discussions afterwards.

Project and discussion groups, organized and led by senior citizen students, are also offered. The program also includes the excursion "Tour Across the Roof of the Cologne Cathedral."

For 100 euros a semester – the fee may be waived in certain cases – senior citizen students can choose from the entire program and put together a comprehensive schedule. Only a few courses require additional costs. As auditors, you do not have to decide on a certain course of study. Anyone can participate, regardless of age, or if you do or do not have an Abitur. An academic degree cannot be attained, since regular studies are required to complete one.

Studies for senior citizens starts in winter semester 2017/2018 with an orientation event on Monday, October 2, 2017, from 10am to 12:30pm, in seminar room 603, on the sixth floor of the "Heizkraftwerk" building, Wüllnerstraße 1, in Aachen. During the event participants will learn all they need to know about Studies for Senior Citizens and RWTH Aachen.

Registration Period from September 11 to October 20, 2017

The registration period starts September 11 and ends October 20, 2017. Registration materials and a bank transfer slip are included in the course program. Senior citizens who have participated in past semesters will receive the brochure in the mail. The brochure is also available in stands in certain Sparkasse locations and bookstores. You can also find it in certain service offices at the university, such as the Registrar's Office and the Info Center in the Super C, Templergraben 57, or the RWTH Shop in the Main Building, Templergraben 55.
