Despite the beautiful Indian summer weather, 23 RWTH alumni accepted the invitation to tour the GE site in Hürth on a Friday afternoon in October.

To begin, RWTH alumna Tamara Wyszynski, the initiator of the meeting, and production manager Sebastian Göddertz welcomed the visitors with coffee and cookies.

Göddertz gave a general overview of the GE site in Hürth, whose origins lie in a company founded by the Krautkrämer brothers that focused on the development and marketing of ultrasonic testing devices. Today, GE is producing 5000 various types of test probes there for non-destructive testing via ultrasound in the business field of oil- and gas industry plant manufacturing. They are also producing devices for video endoscopy, which is being used in the measuring of turbine parts.

Afterwards, Simone Hessel, GE Vice President Digital Transformation DACH, highlighted the importance of digitalization for industry with her presentation "From industrial to digital industrial." GE's software platform "Predix" allows for development of apps for industrial applications, which can be utilized to increase productivity in businesses and help them to refine their business models.
