Research on the Optimization of Sensor Networks
RWTH researcher Gholamreza Alirezaei has received the 2017 Vodafone Sponsorship Award.
Sensor networks are integral components of the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G), the Internet of Things, and Industry 4.0. By 2025, the number of sensors in use worldwide is estimated at 500 billion. There is a wide range of applications from natural disaster warning systems and mobile health monitoring through to applications in sea research, climate change, astronautics, and planetary science.
Dr. Gholamreza Alirezaei from the RWTH Institute for Theoretical Information Technology headed by Professor Rudolf Mathar has succeeded in modelling biological processes with the help of large-scale sensor networks. Furthermore, Alirezaei is concerned with power optimization in sensor networks and the specification of sensors under consideration of specific boundary conditions. Based on a mathematically complex theory, he developed compound parameters to represent the quality of sensor information.
The Iranian-born researcher has now received Vodafone’s 2017 research sponsorship award in the natural and engineering sciences, worth 5000 euros.
