Lecture about Stasi Espionage Activities at RWTH Aachen

03/11/2017

Speaker of the Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Records of the former German Democratic Republic reports on espionage activities.

On November 7, 2017 at 4pm, Bettina Altendorf will give an account of the espionage activities conducted in the 1980's by the Ministry for State Security of the German Democratic Republic, commonly known as Stasi. Altendorf is speaker of the Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Records of the former German Democratic Republic.

Operating under the assumed name Peter Lux, a so-called unofficial employee of the Stasi, worked his way into the Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls at RWTH Aachen – IFAS for short – as a doctoral student. This allowed him to pass along secret research findings to the GDR-leadership. Original documents allow us to reconstruct his activities now, years later.

The public lecture takes place in room 103 at the IFAS, Steinbachstraße 53, Aachen. In collaboration with the Teaching and Research area "Pedagogy of the Social Sciences," the Institute is happy to welcome all interested individuals. Stasi activities at RWTH had already been documented as part of an exhibitition in Aachen in 2015.
