Mentoring for Advanced Talents


The Mentoring Program is one of the University’s strategic components to support early-career researchers. It assists so-called “Advanced Talents” with their career planning.

Mentoring is a process in which an experienced researcher helps an early-career researcher develop his or her career planning through a series of time-limited, confidential, one-on-one conversations.

Mentor and mentee meet to discuss personal and professional goals and develop career perspectives. One-on-one mentoring offers the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss challenges in everyday academic life, and it can help young academics with building and expanding their interdisciplinary networks.

Any professor or professor emeritus may act as a mentor, even if he or she has expertise in another field than the one in which the mentee is active. The mentor may also come from another national or international university or research institution.

The mentee chooses the mentor he or she wants to work with – Advanced Talents are invited to make their suggestions to the Career Development Team. If the mentee cannot find a suitable person to be the mentor, the Rector’s Office and Dean’s Office in the faculty assist with finding a suitable mentor. The mentee is expected to take the initiative in shaping the relationship between mentee and mentor.
