"Meet RWTH" for Education Fund Partners and Donors

The Institute for Combustion Engines presented the Center for Mobile Propulsion and shared the current state of mobile propulsion systems with guests.

 

For the sixth time, the University held "Meet RWTH" for partners and donors of the RWTH Education Fund. The objective of the event is to bring donors closer together, provide an opportunity to share experiences and ideas, and present promising and seminar RWTH research fields and institutes.

485 students were awarded the Germany Scholarship by the RWTH Education Fund to help finance their studies. The Fund is the University's central scholarship program and offers not only the financial resource but also other offers to network students with their donors. The University acquired approximately one million euros from private donors this year. The sum is matched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The Fund also awards 15 Henry Ford Scholarships.

The scholarships were awarded during a celebratory reception. Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg thanked all the donors and this year's scholarship awarders for their commitment and support. Beforehand representatives from businesses and endowments and private individuals were given a look at the work done by the Institute for Combustion Engines, VKA, at the Center for Mobile Propulsion CMP. Professor Stefan Pischinger, head of the CMP, gave a presentation about the "Future of Mobile of Propulsion Systems – Chances, Challenges, and Solutions." He discussed global trends and their influence on the automotive industry and highlighted the potential of the combustion engine and the electrification of automobiles.

At the CMP, the VKA is conducting research with 15 other institutes and chairs in all areas of electrified and highly efficient automotive drive trains. Aside from the further development of individual components in the drive train such as batteries, transmissions, more efficient electric engines, power electronics, and future combustion engines, focus is also placed on researching the complete integration of individual components into modern drive trains. Unlike convential approaches, which usually view individual components or sub-systems in isolation, the CMP has been able to investigate the –in part virtual – entire system as one
