Energy Supply Modules for On-Road Electric Mobility
German Research Foundation DFG provides continued funding for RWTH Graduate Research Training Group
The German Reseach Foundation has approved RWTH Aachen University’s application for continued funding for its Research Training Group “Integrated Energy Supply Modules for Roadbound E-Mobility,” mobilEM for short. In the second funding period between April 2018 and September 2022, mobilEM is expected to receive almost six million euros in funding for its research activities.
To realize sustainable transport and mobility, it is decisive to find compelling answers to pressing questions concerning energy generation, energy distribution, and the reduction of carbon dioxide. Against this backdrop, the mobilEM researchers of the are investigating the integration of efficient energy supply modules into electric mobility solutions.
So far, the group has gained important insights on so-called range extenders, small combustion engines which allow larger cruising ranges of electric vehicles. In future, an additional focus will be placed on the fuel cells as an energy supply module.
Various RWTH research institutions from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Chemistry are participating in the Group. In the second funding period, he Chair of Energy Technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, headed by Professor Angelika Heinzel, will contribute to the Group’s activities.
