4th Call for Applications in the Philipp Schwartz Initiative to Support Threatened Foreign Researchers Now Open

The Philipp Schwartz Initiative provides universities and research institutions in Germany with funding to host threatened foreign researchers for a period of up to 24 months. Applications for fellowships in the fourth round of the initiative may be submitted until May 15, 2018.

 

Moreover, a complementary program promotes the exchange between participating institutions, involving experts from the Scholars at Risk Network, the Scholar Rescue Fund, and the Council for At-Risk Academics.

The initiative is funded by the Federal Foreign Office, with generous additional support from the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen and Halbach Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Stifterverband, and the Stiftung Mercator.

Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2018. Please note that researchers are not eligible to apply themselves – they must be selected and nominated by a suitable host institution.

Please also note that the pertinent threat to the hosted scholar must be confirmed by a third party, such as the Scholars at Risk Network. This assessment process must be completed prior to the application deadline on May 15,2018. For this reason, all relevant documentation is to be submitted to the assessing institution by April 23, 2018.
