The RWTH Aachen Center for Sign Language and Gesture is holding a conference on March 9, 2018.

 

The conference "Deafness & Self-(Employment)" is dedicated to the challenges the hearing impaired face when starting their own businesses. The conference, held on Friday, March 9, 2018, is being hosted by the RWTH Aachen Center for Sign Language and Gesture, SignGes for short. The conference will take place at the Couvenhalle, Kármánstraße 17 to 19 in Aachen.

Conference presentations and panel discussions will address the employment situation of the hearing impaired, funding and support opportunities for starting a business, and self-employment. The project DeafExist, funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, will also be presented. The project was founded in 2014 and since then, has supported the hearing impaired and deaf create a business plan. Entrepreneurship trainings for 52 enterprising individuals have been held in Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, and Berlin in the past four years.

All conference proceedings will be held in German sign and spoken language. Participation is free of charge. Registration is open till March 1.
