RWTH is hosting Media Psychology 2021.


What are the long-term effects of alternative facts when it comes to political attitudes? How are shared successes and failures perceived in robot-human teams or why do we go on social media before bed instead of going straight to sleep? On September 9 and 10, 2021, the conference of the Media Psychology Division of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) will be held in Aachen to address these and other questions. At Media Psychology 2021, around 150 researchers from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, the UK, the U.S., and China will discuss current issues in media psychology. The conference will be a hybrid event, held both on site and virtually.

Some highlights of the conference are the keynote speech by social robotics researcher Professor Selma Šabanović from Indiana University Bloomington, USA, on the topic of Robots for the Social Good and that of psychologist Marc Hassenzahl, Professor of Ubiquitous Design/Experience and Interaction at the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Siegen, on Designing Subtle Devices: Forging and Maintaining the Social Over the Distance.

This year, there will be a debate club format for the first time. Controversial viewpoints on a media psychology topic will be debated in several rounds, with two different researchers each round. This format aims to add more weight to scholarly discussions again and stimulate debate.
