Virtual Event on Flood Protection

In July, our region was hard hit by a flood disaster. Members and students of RWTH were also directly affected or have family, friends, or acquaintances in the affected areas. This crisis drastically demonstrated the effects that climate change can have if the scenarios that more and more climate researchers are predicting come to pass.

Climate change mitigation and adaptation are key issues for the future and RWTH is also addressing these topics. The construction sector is of particular importance here since on the one hand, it significantly contributes to CO2 emissions and thus holds potential for reductions, but on the other hand, the sector also promises adaptation possibilities. Both aspects come with a complex connection of social, economic, and cultural issues. For this reason, an independent interdisciplinary research profile – Built and Lived Environment – BLE for short, is currently being established at RWTH.

The BLE team would now like to invite you to a virtual event on Thursday, October 14, 11 a.m Floods in Western Germany: Relative Context, Analysis, and Perspectives in order to exchange ideas on these topics of the future. The flooding will be carefully examined and associated questions of shaping the future will be analyzed from different perspectives. RWTH scientists will classify, analyze, and discuss what happened in keynote speeches. Viewers are encouraged to submit contributions, questions, or ideas on innovative research approaches.
