RWTH Aachen Welcomes New International Students
RWTH Aachen is expecting over 2,000 new international students for the upcoming 2018/2019 winter semester. The University will kick off the semester with a Welcome Week from September 24 to 29, to help them settle into their studies in Aachen.
"Many of the newcomers are leaving home and living on their own for a longer period of time for the first time. A foreign environment and new teaching and learning methods pose a challenge," says Lisa Stephens in the International Office.
To help them overcome these challenges, the week includes presentations in English on central advising services as well as an opportunity to personally meet contact persons in each faculty. The city of Aachen's Immigration Office and Residents' Service, the Catholic Student Assocation, the Protestant Student Assocation, and the city library will also be represented. Tours of the university campus and libraries, sport offerings, workshops, and leisure activites round out the diverse program. During the Welcome Week, RWTH Rector Ulrich Rüdiger will also award the 2018 DAAD prize to an international student who has shown particular dedication and commitment to a social topic or effort.
