RWTH Graduates Receive 2021 Otto Junker Awards
RWTH graduates Holger Brüggemann, Christina Gasper, Carolin Guntermann, and Maximilian Rumpf were presented with the 2021 Otto Junker Awards for their outstanding academic achievements.
The Otto Junker Prize is conferred annually to RWTH students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the Materials Science and Engineering Division of the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering.
The Otto Junker Foundation was founded in 1970 by Dr. h.c. Otto Junker. As an alumnus of RWTH, he felt intimately connected to the University throughout his life and particularly valued the ongoing intellectual dialogue. The foundation aims to support young scientists as well as numerous individual projects.
Udo vom Berg, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Otto Junker GmbH, and RWTH Rector Ulrich Rüdiger presented the awards at a ceremony. Professor Wolfgang Bleck, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Foundation, and Dr. Ambros Schindler, Chairman of the Otto Junker Foundation, congratulated the winners.
Holger Brüggemann completed secondary school at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Aachen, after which he studied materials engineering at RWTH. He also completed an Erasmus+ stay at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. During his studies at RWTH, he received a Deutschlandstipendium, a scholarship for high-achieving and committed students, and a scholarship from Stiftung Industrieforschung. Since July 2020, Brüggemann has been a research assistant at RWTH’s Institute of Metal Forming.
Christina Gasper graduated from Heinrich-Böll-Gymnasium, Troisdorf, and then studied industrial engineering with specialization in materials and process engineering at RWTH. During her Master’s program, she specialized in materials physics and design as well as corporate development and strategy. In 2021, she was awarded the Springorum Medal, which is presented by RWTH and the proRWTH Association to the top 10 percent of graduates in a cohort. Since June 2020, she has been research assistant at the RWTH Institute of Physical Metallurgy and Metal Physics.
Carolin Guntermann studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Computer Engineering with specialization in Electrical Energy Engineering. Before that, she attended Erzbischöfliches Gymnasium Marienberg in Neuss. She also completed an Erasmus+ stay at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. She has received several honors, including the 2020 EEX Group Excellence Award, a scholarship from the Innogy’s Fellows program, and a Deutschlandstipendium. Since November 2020, she has been a research assistant at the Institute of High Voltage Equipment and Grids, Digitalization and Energy Economics.
Since January 2021, Maximilian Rumpf has been pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Collège des Ingénieurs in Paris, France. After graduating from Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium, Lünen, in 2014, he studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH. During his studies, he completed a study abroad period at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. At both universities, he has been featured on the Dean’s List of outstanding students. He was honored with the Springorum Medal and received a Best Poster Award at the 23rd International Student Conference on Electrical Engineering.
