The German Ministry of Education and Research is funding the project with a total of 1.5 million euros.

 

The German Ministry of Education and Research is funding the joint project HoWas2021 – Governance and Communication in the Event of a Flooding Crisis in July 2021 – with around 1.5 million euros over the next 18 months. At present, researchers from different universities are working together with stakeholders from organizations to improve risk prediction, crisis communication, and disaster management in extreme weather situations. Professor Holger Schüttrumpf from the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at RWTH has taken over the project management. In addition to RWTH, the following are also involved in the project: Freie Universität Berlin, the University of Siegen, the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer, the University of Potsdam, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), Deutscher Wetterdienst, the North Rhine-Westphalia Office of Nature, Environment, and Consumer Protection (LANUV), the Eifel-Rur Water Board, and the Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband.
