RWTH Aachen Is Awarded System Accreditation


The Swiss agency of accreditation has accredited RWTH Aachen's quality assurance system until September 30, 2024.


This system accreditation certifies that the university is now officially in a position to evaluate and certify its courses of study. Accreditation of individual courses of study by external agencies will thus not be required going forward.
Currently, the first courses of study – Mathematics, Physics, and Architecture for example – are already undergoing the new internal quality assurance process.

The legal basis for accreditation has been established by the Interstate Study Accreditation Treaty, the regulations for quality assurance of accreditation of study programs in North Rhine-Westphalia, and the specimen decree pursuant to the aforementioned treaty. The two-year process was initiated two years ago with RWTH Aachen’s application and comprehensive self-assessment report to the accreditation council. The agency for accreditation and quality assurance supervised the procedure, which included, among others, two on-site visits carried out by a team of international experts assembled for this purpose. After a period of six years, the quality management system will have to be accredited again.

This concludes a process that was already set in motion in 2008, when RWTH committed to enhancing its quality management in teaching and learning. Also in its Excellent Teaching institutional strategy and in the Teaching Strategy funded by the federal-state program, RWTH has set the particular goal of further developing quality assurance in studies and teaching. Over the course of the last three years, the building blocks and instruments of quality assurance have been combined and further developed into a comprehensive quality management system.

The students’ needs will be at the focus. Optimization of information, student advising and mentoring offers, the promotion and development of international exchange opportunities and the synchronization of study content will, for example, lead to highly qualified graduates. Our human resource and structural planning departments play an important role in realizing these plans. Fixed quality cycles ensure continuous improvement of audit, teaching and learning methods and processes within the university.
