“GoGreen” Project to Research Green Spaces in Buildings and Plots of Land

01/02/2022

An RWTH institute is working with the Cities of Aachen and Eschweiler to assist them in adapting to climate change.

The Institute of Urban and Transport Planning of RWTH Aachen University, the City of Aachen, and the City of Eschweiler have begun a joint research project to promote green areas in buildings and plots of land. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection has provided 164,000 euros to fund the “GoGreen” project as part of the German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.

From February 2022 to January 2025, the project partners will be developing and testing strategies to assess the feasibility of increasing the green spaces on buildings and plots of land. The goal is to increase climate-relevant green spaces at the community level and to exploit unused potential. Main focus areas of the work include assessing the motivation and acceptance of different groups of people as well as communication and participation. The project results should be able to be projected for use throughout the whole country.
