Lidrotec Wins 2022 Rice Business Plan Competition

Students and doctoral candidates from RWTH, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, and WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management won the Rice Business Plan Competition, the largest graduate-level student startup competition worldwide.
Their startup company Lidrotec, which received support from RWTH and Ruhr-Universität Bochum via the Exzellence Start-up Center.NRW, was founded in 2021.
Lidrotec builds laser machines which allow the high-precision cutting of microchips for the semiconductor industry. Microchips are produced on – and have to be cut out of – so-called wafers. The use of liquids during the cutting process cools the wafers and simultaneously removes ablation products such as particles. The scrap rate is thus reduced to almost zero percent.
