RWTH University Library to Switch to a New System
There will be temporary restrictions on borrowing and interlibrary loans.
The University Library of RWTH Aachen University is switching to the nationwide standardized library management system ALMA on August 1. At the same time, the public catalog will be converted to the associated "Primo" system. This measure is being financed by the Ministry of Culture and Science as part of a state-wide initiative. The changeover will lead to temporary restrictions; those responsible apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The restrictions will be most noticeable in media lending. From July 25 to July 31, this will only be possible to a limited extent, and it will not be possible to book loans in the system during this period, i.e. you will not be able to borrow items. However, it will be possible to return items manually throughout this period.
Interlibrary loans are also affected: Since RWTH is changing over at the same time as 15 other universities in the NRW network, interlibrary loans cannot be carried out temporarily. Media that need to be returned cannot be ordered from June 10 to July 7. However, they can be returned against a manually issued receipt. Journal articles cannot be ordered and collected between July 18 and August 7.
The library has made every effort to keep the restrictions as brief as possible and it will remain open throughout the entire changeover period. Staff will also be available on site to answer any further questions. The library's electronic media range will remain usable throughout the period. The library will continue to acquire media during the period of restrictions; this will not be computerized.
Further details can be found on the library's information page. Questions can be answered by calling the Library Information Center at +49 241 80 94459 or by sending an e-mail.
