RWTH Warmly Welcomes International Students With Its 2022/23 Winter Term Welcome Weeks
The International Office of RWTH Aachen University welcomes all new international students starting in winter term 2022/23 with a special introductory and support program to ensure they have the best start possible at RWTH and in Aachen.
This Semester’s Welcome Week program will take place from September 19 to September 30, 2022. The first week’s program consists primarily of online offers. Then, on September 27, 2022, Professor Habel (Vice-Rector for International Affairs) will personally welcome all new international students and present the DAAD Award for Particularly Committed International Students 2021 at the official on-site kick-off event in the Audimax Large Lecture Hall.
Throughout the Welcome Weeks, students will receive important information about studying and living in Aachen. The introductory program, which is specifically tailored to the needs and interests of the new international students, is designed to ensure they are well-prepared academically and soon feel integrated into Aachen and the student community. The hybrid format allows the new students to get to know the central services and essential partners of RWTH well ahead of time - sometimes through remote offers while they are still abroad. Later, they can also contact them personally on site at RWTH, for example, at the Freshers’ Fair on September 28 in the Audimax lecture building.
We are especially pleased to offer most of the events in person again, including intercultural training, campus and library tours, our kick-off event, the reception for exchange students, and the Freshers’ Fair. In addition, the Sports Day will be offered again on a larger scale in the form of a rally on Templergraben, as well as the Welcome Home Feast, our welcoming event for new internationals and RWTH returnees from abroad. The on-site events especially help the newcomers get to know each other and network. Rapid integration is an essential aspect of successful studies at RWTH. The recordings and materials of the Welcome Week will be made available via the Latecomer web page, so students who may have missed some events can also access this information.
We would like to take this opportunity to also thank the Welcome Week Network for supporting us in the realization of our events. RWTH students who volunteer at the International Office during the Welcome Weeks (so-called Welcome Week Volunteers) may have their commitment recognized as part of the Certificate International program.
In addition, the Info Service Center of the International Office regularly offers web seminars on key topics with experts during the semester, provides a Survival Guide, and has open office hours so new students will always have a contact point. The BeBuddy program and the student clubs, which mostly offer their services at Humboldt House, are a great way for latecomers to socialize and network. The housing advice service furthermore provides students with assistance and advice on finding housing in Aachen.
