2022 Trip to Indonesia
Professor Bernd Markert, Rector’s Delegate for RWTH Alumni Relations, and Dietrich Hunold, Alumni Coordinator, recently met RWTH Alumnus Otto Toto Sugiri, cofounder and president director of data center company DCI Indonesia – the leading and largest data center provider in Indonesia. Sugiri graduated from RWTH with a degree in electrical engineering, majoring in computer engineering, in 1980. In Indonesia, he is revered as a pioneer of entrepreneurship and digitalization, powering the country’s digital economy. RWTH Alumnus Sjarif Hidajat, who helped establish contact with Otto Toto Sugiri, also joined the meeting.
The guests from Aachen spoke about their alumni activities at a DAAD Alumni Meeting in Yogyakarta. The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) had invited former Indonesian scholarship recipients to this regional meeting as part of the GetIn-CICERO Conference, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The conference was a collaboration between RWTH geoscientists and colleagues from the partner university in Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
Bernd Markert and Dietrich Hunold saw the conference as an ideal opportunity to strengthen ties between the RWTH and the Indonesian alumni network, encouraging potential future alumni activities e. g. establishing an alumni association.
