Reputation Is Key to Success
RWTH hosts the Advanced Talents Day 2022 event
How can I enhance my academic profile? How can I use science communication to market myself, and how can I plan the next steps in my career? Around 60 junior professors, junior research groups, and postdocs addressed these and other questions at the Advanced Talents Day 2022 at RWTH. The event is a cooperation between RWTH, the University of Cologne, and Forschungszentrum Jülich. Professor Sabine Brück-Dürkop, RWTH Vice-Rector for Human Resources Management and Development and patron of the event, welcomed the participants and guests to RWTH.
An excellent academic reputation is a key to a successful career in research and science. Therefore, it is important for scholars to effectively communicate their research findings and to be perceived as experts in the scholarly community. Current trends in science communication and self-marketing were, therefore, the focus of this year’s Advanced Talents Day. Other topics included reforms in the evaluation of research performance on the pathway to a professorship, cross-cutting topics, such as equal treatment and opportunities in academic and individual career paths, as well as issues of responsibility in research.
Advanced Talents Hub at RWTH
With the establishment of its Advanced Talents Hub, RWTH can identify talented young individuals at the University aspiring to later become tenured professors or permanent academic staff members. University management would also like to fulfill its responsibility toward these outstanding researchers and support them in their personal and academic development in the highly competitive professional environment. The Advanced Talents Hub, therefore, guides talented scholars in developing and focusing on their academic careers. The unit offers a broad portfolio for continuing education, consulting, and networking, including comprehensive qualification opportunities when it comes to leadership and management tasks.
The Advanced Talents Hub – part of Department 12.0 – Staff Development and Talent Management – is coordinated within the Center for Young Academics as a central point of contact, continuing education, consulting, and networking for all those interested in doctoral studies, doctoral candidates, postdocs, and Advanced Talents at RWTH. All offers for staff and career development for academic and administrative employees have been systematically grouped within the department since 2021.
