On November 22, the “2030 Everyday Technology” lecture series will be launched by Professor Jax with a talk entitled “Glasses for the Ears – In/On-Ear Communication Systems of the Future.”

The communication systems expert expert will highlight some of the possibilities offered by so-called “hearables” and the acoustic and technical challenges involved.

More and more people are already using hearables in their everyday lives, that is, smart wireless microcomputers utilizing wireless and AI technology to supplement and enhance the listening experience. These “glasses for the ears” can be used as a personal assistive device, for example.

The fields of application are diverse and range from consumer audio to healthcare and communications. Great potential is offered by 3D telephony: The technology enables a more immersive experience of teleconferencing, creating a sense of being present in a virtual place together with others. Such novel communication platforms are already being developed by research and industry.

The kick-off lecture by Professor Peter Jax from the RWTH Institute of Communication Systems is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm in the Ford Room, SuperC, Templergraben 57. Please note that the lecture will be given in German.

The 2030 Everyday Technology lecture series is hosted by the RWTHextern Citizens’ Forum.
