Working Together to Combat Sexism and Sexual Harassment

06/01/2025

The exhibition will be opened on January 13. Further events are scheduled to take place later in January.

As part of the nationwide alliance “Gemeinsam gegen Sexismus” (Together Against Sexism), RWTH Aachen University, in cooperation with the City of Aachen, FH Aachen and the NRW Catholic University of Applied Sciences, is hosting a traveling exhibition of the same name in January 2025. The alliance and exhibition are an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the EAF Berlin (European Academy for Women in Politics and Science Berlin e.V.). They have set themselves the goal of dismantling the taboo surrounding the topic of sexism and sexual harassment, educating people about the social consequences, and presenting ways to prevent it occurring. The exhibition combines visual design with socially critical messages, and it creates a platform for people to get information on and reflect on the subject.

The exhibition opening will take place on January 13 at 7pm in the Sparkasse Aachen customer center at Elisenbrunnen. There will be welcoming addresses by the Lord Mayor Sibylle Keupen and the representatives of the participating institutions. Dr. Sabine Blackmore, an expert on sexual harassment, discrimination, and violence in the university setting, will give a keynote speech in which she will place the topic into a social and university policy context and in which she will identify joint institutional options for action. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas and to take a closer look at the exhibition. Registration for the event is required. Please visit the RWTH website for more information.

On January 14, from 2pm to 4pm, RWTH will host a Lunch Talk on a related topic with Dr. Sabine Blackmore in the C.A.R.L. lecture hall center (lecture hall 08). The speaker will expand on the topics of the exhibition in the university context, and she will highlight perspectives for preventing and dealing with sexism in higher education. The event will also provide space for discussion and debate. Registration is also required for this event.

The exhibition will be on display at the Sparkasse Aachen customer center at Elisenbrunnen until January 23. From January 15 to 28, it will also be presented at the lecture hall center C.A.R.L. and at the cooperating institutions in Aachen.

All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the events and to participate in the discussion on this important topic.
